Academy Award® nominated for Best Foreign Language Film 2005 and winner of the Venice Film Festival Human Rights Award 2004. YESTERDAY, starring Leleti Khumalo (Hotel Rwanda) is a story of compassion and hope set in contemporary South Africa ten years after the arrival of democracy. Set against the awesome, harsh landscapes of South Africa, YESTERDAY is a stunningly powerful and profound film about a mother’s love for her child and courage over adversity.
From the Director of Sarafina! and Cry, the Beloved Country, Darrell James Roodt YESTERDAY is an eloquent and unsentimental film every parent should see.
In collaboration with The Boomerang Project and APHEDA, Tsuki hosted the gala screening of YESTERDAY at Parliament House to raise funds for Rehoboth, a foster-care village for over 15,000 orphans affected by HIV in Murchison, KwaZulu-Natal. For info on Rehoboth and the Boomerang Project, go to www.boomerangproject.org
Over 1000 Teddy Bears for HIV/AIDS orphans and disadvantaged children for over 30 hospitals and charities in South Africa were on display at Parliament House as part of the Teddy Bear Project initiative started by Soley Productions Director Beryl Segers. For more information visit www.soleyproductions.com
Additionally UNICEF hosted benefit screenings of YESTERDAY nationally in support of their global HIV/AIDS campaign, which aims to reach an additional 10 million orphans and vulnerable children with the essential services of education, health care, nutrition and counseling in the next 5 years. By the year 2010 over 25 million children will have lost one or both parents to AIDS.
"The essence of YESTERDAY is that those who watch it will hear
the message, see and grasp it, act on it and pass it on"
