HOWL’S MOVING CASTLE OPENS AT NO.1

HOWL'S MOVING CASTLE opened No.1 on the limited release report and 3 weeks into release still holds this position. Box office to date has surpassed all previous Miyazaki releases.

Miyazaki is most famously known for SPIRITED AWAY, considered a classic of the fantasy genre, which won the Golden Bear at the Berlin Festival in 2002 and the Oscar for ‘Best Animated Feature’ in 2003, the first Oscar to be awarded to an anime production.

This year’s Venice International Film Festival saw Japanese film director Hayao Miyazaki awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement, the first time this award has been presented to a director of animated films.  The director received the award on Friday 9th September during the course of a ‘Miyazaki Day’ which saw screenings of three of his films ON YOUR MARK ANIMATION (1995), NAUSICAÄ OF THE VALLEY OF THE WIND (1984) and PORCO ROSSO (1992).

Miyazaki is currently planning three new films.
